Image Optimisation Checker
Find the images that slow your page down or hold back your SEO: missing alt text, heavy files, legacy formats, missing dimensions and lazy-loading mistakes, in one report.
Images are the heaviest part of most pages.
On a typical webshop, images account for more than half of the bytes downloaded. They also carry accessibility and image-search value through alt text. This checker looks at both sides.
Describes the image for screen readers and search engines. Missing alt on meaningful images is an accessibility failure and a lost ranking signal for image search.
Descriptive, not genericFiles above 200 KB and legacy formats (JPG, PNG) are flagged. WebP and AVIF typically cut weight by 30 to 60 percent at the same quality.
Under 200 KB, WebP or AVIFWidth and height attributes prevent layout shift. Lazy loading below the fold saves bandwidth; lazy loading the hero image delays LCP.
Dimensions set, lazy below the foldGet images right once, then automate it.
Let the CMS do the work: WordPress with a conversion plugin, Shopify and PrestaShop with their built-in WebP support. Set a maximum width per image role.
“Blue linen shirt, front view” beats “shirt” and beats “IMG_2041.jpg”. Skip alt (alt=””) only for purely decorative images.
Always output width and height attributes, even when CSS scales the image. The browser uses the ratio to reserve space and avoid layout shift.
Add loading=”lazy” to images further down the page. Never lazy-load the hero or the first product images; give those fetchpriority=”high”.
